Following an international, successful career as a strategic business development manager in the transport and logistics industry, Verena moved to research and academics in 2007, with the objective of contributing with her work to the improvement of transport and logistics sustainability. 
She joined the DLR, German Aerospace Centre, Institute of Transport Research and was coordinator of the EU-cofunded project COFRET Carbon Emissions of Freight Transport. 
In 2018 she moved to France where she was invited as a guest researcher by the University Gustave Eiffel.
Verena took one of the leading roles in the development of ISO 14083 “Quantification and reporting of greenhouse gas emissions arising from transport chain operations” and was the coordinating author of the GLEC Framework v 3.0. Close cooperation between industry and research is a characteristic of Verena's work and characterises her projects, interest group commitments, and publications.
Since 2022 Verena works as a professor and Academic Director at IÉSEG School of Management, and independent consultant in international supply chain management.
